THE WARRIORS - ABOUT US

The Warriors Basketball Club has a rich 16 year history of servicing predominately junior basketballers within the city of Glen Eira, as well as surrounding area.

The Club was established in 1995 and was one of the first founding clubs along with the McKinnon Lakers of the McKinnon Basketball Association. The club was borne out of the Gardenvale Primary School after it's founder Bob Mann conducted clinics at the school to generate some interest in the sport.

That interest was considerable with six teams being formed from those clinics. The Garden State Warriors were born.

Bob was also the founding member of the McKinnon Lakers (now Bentleigh Lakers) Basketball Club and the McKinnon Basketball Association. From those clinics the Warriors grew and grew where it was fielding up to 30 teams in competitions of all age groups and genders.

This continued until 2009 when after making a stand based on ethics the club was forced out of the MBA in what can only be described as an extremely unethical act by the MBA management.

Despite this the Warriors have recovered remarkably since then. The Warriors now has evolved where it manages Garden State Warriors basketball club for it's domestic teams that now play out of the Sandringham Basketball Association and also the rep program under the same Warriors names and colours through their management of the Oakleigh Basketball Association.

This has allowed all the Warriors members who stood by the club to be able to represent the program at all levels. This was demonstrated by the U12 Boys this season making the state's top grade in the Victorian Championships.

The Warriors recently won the Expression Of Interest process for the new GESAC facility and are now looking forward to a bright future at this wonderful new facility. With this acheivement the Garden State Warriors has now changed itname to better reflect it's new home to the Glen Eira Basketball Club.

The Glen Eira Warriors now have the ability to develop new competitions and to increase it's depth of player talent, while offering some wonderful competitions and programs to Glen Eira residents. Through this the Warriors can now look forward to building on it's already impressive acheivements.

With a new facility, a professional and ambitious management group, a new name, and a wonderful coaching group the Warriors are an exciting club to be a part of .
